I really enjoyed this at the start and was excited to see where it was going because it was so promising. Half way through, it really dropped off for me. The romance did not feel real, the worldbuilding--which could have been so interesting--was undeveloped, the backstory was not enough for me, much of it was unbelievable even in a futuristic world, and I still have many questions that should have been answered.

More of a 2.5. The thing with this book is that it was written really poorly, and the romance is a cliché. However, the plot was very interesting. I struggled with actually reading it for a good amount of time, but I finally sat down and read it. I did not like this book..... but I also loved it. It's awkward, and flip-floppy just a tad (Is it Arrin or Arris???? STOP PLAYING WITH ME.) , and I was hoping she'd find her necklace or something, I liked Bowen, but I think he just flipped from "Get the fuck away from me Fec" to "Pls make out with me" really fast. The romance was like a snap of the fingers. They loved each other within days? Hmmmmmmmmmm

It wasn't the best written book. It was actually pretty bad. Yet, I was still hooked because of the plot and - okay - a little bit of the romance. I shipped them.

It falls in that niche dystopian YA trend we had in 2010-2016.  It is a well done story in the likes of The Maze Runner (especially The Scorch Trials)

With that being said, I enjoyed the story and it made me rekindle with that genre I used to love so much. Our main character is loveable and relatable, although she makes stupid choices at times.

I am eager to start book 2.

I wanted to let this book sit and stew in my mind a bit before writing a review on it; I read the entire thing in roughly three hours, mostly sitting on the train--and honestly, I regret the time I could've been reading something else or even staring out the window at a wasteland comparable to the one in the book. The idea is great - I love some human-caused post-apocalyptic storyline, especially when it comes to the bees dying out. But it was just told really, really poorly. Halfway through I wanted to just skip to the end because the content of the middle just wasn't that interesting. I wanted more from this story. Whether that be in the world it's set in, or even just the characters being better fleshed out. Anything.

Interesting take on a ruined world. The characters are interesting and the mystery is really good. I wasn't sure who to trust throughout the book and the narrator was unreliable by her own account. The romance element felt forced, it might have been a better book without it.

Slow to start and there were some clichés I didn’t like that much, but I liked the plot and appreciated the romance.

Good book. Can be read as a stand alone.
