Beautiful, meaningful ending that leaves up many interpretations for the story and valuable messages. Absolutely amazing art and the emotional impact will depend on how you interpret the ending.

What an ending. Inio Asano himself said that this ending is the
worst ending for Punpun, since he needs to live without Aiko
but I see it as more of a depressing yet neutral ending. Chapter 145, when
Aiko shows up and Punpun thinks that Tanabata will always be cloudy
broke me. Still, life goes on, and despite everything that has happened in Punpun’s life, he can still move forwards.

I'm done. This story was dissapointing and really had something to say in the end. Some could say that this was about the way our childhood always stays with us and has a lot of influence and what we are as people and how the cycles of abuse work, but there are so many books that actually took the time to work with those topics, while the author of Goodnigh Punpun worked on making a story based on their ideas. I did not enjoy this read and I still do not get why so many people liked it.

The ending is quite fast and left a little ambiguous, but I think that might be the point. It feels like a few chapters were missing or something but it was enjoyable despite this. In some ways this was the most fitting ending ot could have given us.

damn..
one thing i'm amazed at this series ability to do is make an event in punpuns childhood that i read about 5 days ago seriously make it feel like 5 years since that day.

Holy crap, what a strong, tragically fucked-up yet bittersweet end for a manga series that started so weirdly quirky. I had originally thought it’d be a typical coming-of-age tale but Punpun sucker punched my expectations. The character development and overall tone changes almost drastically throughout Goodnight Punpun, and yet it feels natural. Each character and their side-plots are interesting, heartbreaking, and, more importantly, ambiguous. Watching children (and even the adults) around them grow — especially those who can’t escape or recover from their trauma — is painful. The possibilities of how they will end up, what they will do, can drive a person crazy.
Is there point to wondering about it? That’s a question I could see some characters asking.
I would give the manga series as a whole 4.75/5 stars. I wish I could read the series for the first time again.
Dear God, Dear God, tinkle hoy!
