I didn't finish it. I stopped in the second section because I found Frobisher's behavior too objectionable. Regardless of whether we're supposed to approve of him, it's natural to empathize with him as the protagonist, and putting myself in his place was too distasteful for me.

6 inter-related stories of the same soul throughout history. A bit pretentious and hard to follow at times but very interesting in how it all ties together.

Three stars because somewhere in Cloud Atlas there were glimpses of brilliance. Unfortunately, I felt they were obscured by too much misery, too much contemplation on the evils of the world and how we are destroying ourselves and each other. Perhaps it is merely because I like to find a bit more hope of redemption for mankind than I found in CA and then I guess the three stars are merely because I like my books to have a few more survivors. I did also wish for more answers; I found that there were too many loose ends left.
I did appreciate the form of the book, as well as the clever tie-ins of the characters, although again, I wish there had been more purpose to it besides what felt like lives of repeated misery.
