This book was better than book one! Wolf and Sabine try to keep their feelings under control while Rian grows more suspicious that they had an affair. Political turmoil ignites as the church tries to steal the throne. Rian’s father is plotting behind the scenes. King Rachillon is encroaching upon Astagnon. And the ending….!

The political intrigue… the romance… the world building and magic…. Every other chapter was Wolf’s POV so you always knew what he was feeling and thinking.  This was such a page turner and the pace never let up! This was MY kind of book! Loved it!

Alright... This was an absolute train wreck about 70% of the time. There is an absolutely fantastic novel in here somewhere, however it gets lost in the absolute insanity of the smut and underdevelopment of side characters.

That being said... I still enjoyed this. I love the twist at the end! I wish a certain character was more developed or we at least saw a stronger connection between Sabine and her betrothed. I filled in the blanks in my head and would skip over the unnecessary and cringy spicy sequences. Only then could I fully enjoy what I was reading.

I still look forward to reading the next book because the stakes have continued to be raised and it continues to be a dark and twisted world that was established in the first book. I'm very much invested despite some of the suspect writing choices.
