Honestly, this wasn’t a bad book. It was enjoyable; the problem is that this the second book in a row that is ending on one of my top 5 least favorite tropes. The book isn’t good enough to be worth going through that so I won’t be continuing the series.

For reference, the first book ended with Basten finding out a secret about Sabine, not telling her, and then taking the “oh I’ll just make her hate me instead of breaking up with her or having a conversation like an adult.”

The second book ends with (a trope spoiler, but nothing more specific than that)
Spoileran amnesia trope where one of Sabine/Basten forgets the other

It is a good romantasy, I'd prefer a little more world building but it isn't terrible. I love how Sabine's underrated magic is evolving. I'm not a fan of omniscient antagonists, so the events in the book were fantastic, but then a cliff suddenly appeared!! I'm enjoying this series and hope the momentum keeps up. Series that are 4 books or longer usually give me series fatigue during book 3 so I'm crossing my fingers for the next book!

I’m on the fence with this one. There was a lot that I loved about it, but some things I felt were very meh. I absolutely LOVED the first one, but this felt like we lost the spark from the two leads.

Things I loved - Sabine and her God kissed powers! Lord Rian Valvere - I want so much more of this character. I found him fascinating and I hope we get more of him in the next book(s).

Thing I didn’t like - Basten. I thought he became kind of weak. Overly obsessed with Sabine and a lot of the love language really made me cringe. It was too over the top. I didn’t like the way the villain was  defeated in this one. It was way too easy. Also didn’t particularly like the cliff hanger. It felt cheap.

Will continue onto book 3 though because of my love for book one. Fingers crossed the next can redeem itself from the second book slump.
