This was an interesting take on Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. It takes the well know story and puts it in contemporary Pakistan. It was definitely a creative take on the story. I did find the book to be a bit long winded and it catered a bit toward people already familiar with the culture in Pakistan. That being said, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to other readers.

I really, really wanted to like this as P&P retellings and reimaginings are something I love, but unfortunately, Unmarriageable was very, very hard to read. I found that so much of the story of told to us instead of shown, including moments where the dialogue would go from conversations to paragraphs deciding it for no reason that I could understand.

I also did not like some of the characterizations, especially of characters based on those from P&P. It felt so overdramatized in moments it was hard to stay in the story; characters shrieked and yelled and said they should die, and I just didn't understand why.

The body image issues throughout the book were added in for a reason clearly, but they made me genuinely uncomfortable, and there wasn't any challenging of them in the actual book but briefly a happy ending for Qitty in the epilogue. The characters were exceptionally nasty to her in a way that was horrific, and it was treated as just teasing.

On the whole, the book needed more nuance and better storytelling.
