A well-written, emotional story about grief and healing. I just couldn’t get over the sense that the Farm had something sinister hiding beneath the surface. 

Red herrings aside, the Farm still felt like a cult. It made me deeply uncomfortable and kept me from being able to trust any of the secondary characters. I’m not sure if that was the intention or not. 

Instead of a teen girl’s journey to find acceptance, healing, and a family, it read to more like she was groomed into devoting herself to a cult.

i can always count on nina lacour for sad gay girlies representation!!!! love how it talked about how affirming it is to have a found family, but also how dangerous it is to have to rely on other people for certain things. in the end, our personal growth is mostly really up to ourselves. the writing was so beautiful, and the narrator read it all so beautifully.
