It felt a bit short and was over very quickly. There's a point where Mila wants to savor something and not rush things, and I wish that had been allowed to happen. Maybe the payoff would have been more substantial.

when i first read this book, i was a little bit suspicious of how it would end. the mystery unfolded in such a way that i figured things out with mila, not before or after her. i absolutely love lacour’s use of magical realism to express grief and trauma.

I'm not sure if I can give a Nina LaCour book less than 5 stars at this point because the writing is just so beautiful every time. My only complaint is that I could have read another 100 pages of the same story and been happy. The atmosphere, the characters, the plot, I'm in love with it all.
