There were just too many characters for me it made it really hard to be invested in any of them. The writting style is very beautiful.

Not what I was hoping it was, sadly. I was looking for something like TRC, but there’s no intense trust and closeness between the characters here. They use drugs, party, and sleep around. It’s more like TRC’s villains (aka mildly blah and into things I can’t identify with).
So, I have mixed feelings. I enjoyed the characters in this book. I really liked seeing all the different relationships develop. I also LOVED the queer lady rep, especially the wlw relationship! Other than that, I found the plot to be super boring, unfortunately :/

The writing in here is truly beautiful. I really enjoy that. Bonus points for mentioning Seamus Heaney poems. I also LOVE the setting and the whole feel/vibe/atmosphere of the book. However, it took me awhile to grasp what was going on with my tiny brain, and even after finishing the book I'm still pretty confused by some things.
That's the thing about magic, I guess. I'm not really supposed to understand, and that's okay. I couldn't help being pretty annoyed with the characters though because they were immature and I just couldn't relate to them or care. I've been having that problem a lot lately. The parents were also utterly pointless aside from being plot devices. So there were many things I loved about this, but the characters are kind of necessary to the story and they were the worst part.
I definitely want to read more from this author, though. This whole thing was so smartly and strategically crafted.

Remarkable Read, and I say that as someone in her mid 50s
