I feel like I missed something in the ending because it feels like everything was just suddenly done and fine. Some things were never explained and certain things that were brought up (things that seem big to me) were not resolved. If the characters weren't so interesting and the magic wasn't so mysterious and strange, this would have been two stars unfortunately. I was intrigued enough to read the whole thing but it really feels like there should be a second book or at least another few chapters. The super creepy boy in the woods (Jude) made be think of the creepy demon thing from Sawkill Girls for a while but then it really fell flat for me.

I loved the relationships between the characters and how the two storylines came together. However, a good portion of this book just fell flat sadly.

This was just one truly mysterious and amazing read! I love Doyle's storytelling and writing style. Instead of just being blunt or straightforward through generic tropes, Doyle provides readers with a story that allows them to come up with their own conclusions. Was their a spellbook? Can magic really bring something that you lost? It leaves you with many questions but answers that you need to figure out on your own. I loved the imagery, the atmosphere and the pain. You can feel it ooze from the pages. It provided more insight into life than most wouldn't think that a YA novel could provide. The aimlessness that the characters go through just makes it so relatable and provides teenagers such a deep connection with the story and with life. The writing was just not only hauntingly beautiful but provided one of my favorite quotes of the year: “If you’re not careful you can spend your whole life looking for what you’ve lost.”

I liked it, but I still think The Accident Season was better. I think there were just too many characters, and I didn’t particularly connect with any of them. The plot was super intricate, very original and pretty damn creepy. 👍🏼

I wanted to really love this book. This is right up my alley. Magic, maybe witchcraft. It started off a little slow, and I was not wild about any of the characters. It was told from three different perspectives, which is another thing I like in books. Once you get into the story, it is very compelling. There are several mysterious elements to solve. One that I solved long before any of the characters did. So, the shocking reveal was not very impactful. Everything was going pretty well, but then the book ended in a bit of a fizzle.

I liked it. It was a fun read.

Excellent and tightly executed blend of mundane and creepy, plus solid, natural, unceremonious racial, LGBT, and disability representation, PLUS mysteries that layer and are easy to predict in the broad strokes but impossible to predict in the impact, PLUS three different Irish narrators, if you go audio.
