I do not understand how to critically review a book.
That being said,
I really enjoyed this book. The plot was easy to follow but still kept you guessing. The character's weren't heavily complex but I will argue that they are realistic with their different life experiences that makes their actions understandable. This book does feature some sensitive topics (SA, Addiction, Abuse, Death) but they contribute to story progression and are not discussed in depth. This book also features WLW interactions that do not feel heavily sexualised and queer relations are represented as much as straight relationships.
I highly enjoyed this book and I think that the average queer young-adult fantasy reader would also like it.

I struggled to get into it and didn't feel any connection to the characters. I ended up putting it aside.
This is a whimsical, crazy, confusing fantasy. Normally this sounds like it would be right up my alley, but I had a hard time enjoying this one.
I listened to this book via audiobook format and I'm not sure if I may have enjoyed it more reading it in print. There was a bit too much going on and I spent most of this book confused about what is happening and why things are relevant until the plot started coming together at the end. (I realize this is normally how a novel would go, but there were a few too many pieces of the puzzle for me.)
Hope others love this more than I did! Loved the Sapphic romance rep in here, though. :)

I wasn't expecting to love Spellbook of the Lost and Found so much, but it certainly took me by surprise. In hindsight, I ought to have seen it coming when Fowley-Doyle's author bio brought a real smile to my face.
The writing is simple, but also lovely and lyrical; certain parts felt like reading a dream. What I especially liked was that throughout Spellbook of the Lost and Found plot threads are constantly in operation; that minor character you thought was nobody at the beginning may actually be somebody, or a throwaway line of dialogue turns out to be important. Everything was connected, and in such an enjoyable way, too. I was kept guessing throughout, and it all led to such a satisfying pay-off! In fact, there came a point when I was reading when I thought, "This is going to be another one of those books that I stay awake until ridiculous-o'clock just to finish, isn't it?"

I loved it!
I really enjoyed this book. I tend to love fiction about magic and witches. It was even more fascinating because it's about things lost and things found. The end still leaves you thinking, there are some unanswered things, but I think that's a good thing. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys magic and reading.
