I wasn’t going to write a review, but I happened to pop into the reviews tab and discovered a lot (like, a LOT) of reviews calling this book repetitive. I could not disagree more. There are bands in here with lasting success, bands who broke up in spectacular fashion, bands where making it big didn’t actually mean being a household name.

Ozzi is a spectacular writer, and he doesn’t feel the need to spell things out - stories about the way women are treated mean more than simply saying women were treated badly. I read this in a book club with friends, all of us with varying knowledge of this music and this scene, and I’d call that the ideal experience. Being able to discuss and look at the themes as a whole elevated this book from a pretty good read to one of the best reading experiences of my year.
