Impresionante

I’m glad I read this book as it’s about ETA and the impact this terrorist group had on the lives of two very connected fictional families; a subject I know very little about and was interested to know more.

The translation has also been done to a very high standard.

What spoiled this book for me was the very confusing way the chapters flit between 8 or so different characters over several time periods but in quite short chapters. Often I would have to read a whole page or so before being able to work out who was speaking and when. The simple addition of the characters name and year as a chapter sub heading would have greatly improved my reading experience.

Secondly this book is really dialogue heavy - like 85% + which when combined with the above just really disrupted the overall plot & left a very disjointed reading experience.

An interesting read but sadly flawed in too many places for me.

Oh man, that was as heavy as it was educational. I was amazed by how unlikable the majority of the characters was and am still pondering if that was the author's central device to convey the atmosphere during ETA times. Anywho, I didn't know the first thing about this whole topic and appreciate the chance to get a glimpse into this part of world history.
