Oh to be back with Fitz and even more with Hobb's writing is so lovely. It is so addictive and hard to put down and has refilled me with that childlike love of reading and desire to pick up my book in every free moment.
Fool's Assassin, like many of the first books in the mini series, operates as a prologue to set up the story. It's main function, I think, is to get you invested in Bee as a character and I think that works very well. The departure from single to duel POV is interesting and I really like seeing the ways that they slightly misunderstand each other. I imagine at least the next book will have that Finding Nemo energy which I am hopeful will be good.
The new mysteries around the Servants and how/if Bee can be the Fool's child and how Bee can dream so accurately of Nighteyes are all intriguing and I can tell that I will eventually want to reread the entire RofE once I have all the answers. There are so many interesting threads going on at once it feels like just sitting down at a feast, enjoying the first course, and smelling all that is to come.
I may allow myself to go straight into Fool's Quest as a little treat.

Hobb’s character work is as strong as ever but the pacing of this book is kind of dreadful. I’m used to slow burns from this series but it did feel like a chore sometimes to get through this one. Still, the last few chapters were absolute page turners, and I have high hopes for the next book based on where this one left off.
