Overall fairly engaging and something I can see myself rereading in the future.
At what point is there no difference between us and a machine - when that machine has stopped being a simple tool and has a will of its own? No, of course, because they can't possibly have empathy, a requirement to be human. Or is it a requirement? What is empathy? The simulataneous feeling of emotion of another, perhaps. Or maybe... It's really as simply as Identifying with another. At least that might be the case with some of the Nexus-6 androids. Interesting for it to be revealed near the climax that empathic religion of Mercerism, Humanity's dangling example of betterment over the androids, is a hoax of a religion (at least from a logical Andy standpoint). In any case the differences in felt empathy between our main character and the other bounty hunter conveys that this humanly intrinsic sense of emotions for others isn't quite equal across the board.
A showcase of how humans can't help but catergorize in order to create hierarchy. The "Special" character in the mix did not necessarily strike me as someone of low grade intelligence, judging by his internal thoughts. Just as a lonely man suffering from society and his given place in it. He may be seen as human but he sure as hell isn't treated much better than the androids.
Ironic that the majority of earth wants to go to the colonies while androids want to come to earth. Perhaps showing that the andy's have more of a human element than some humans.
I had been meaning to read a Phillip K. Dick novel for some time now, first physical copy I was able to get my paws on.

I believe that in time this book will be a classic much as 1984 is now, but I believe that this book is better than 1984, as it takes a critical look at technology, religion, ethics in a way similar to 1984, but expected in my opinion much better

to be honest, spodziewałem się po tej książce czegoś zupełnie innego, więc uprzedzam że to też wpłynęło na to jak odebrałem jej faktyczną zawartość.
bardzo lubię wątki sztucznej inteligencji w książkach (oraz filmach, grach etc), ta książka taki wątek zawiera, jednak androidy nie grają w niej za dużej roli – są ścigane i tyle, a bardziej skupiamy się na problemach egzystencjalnych głównego bohatera. miał on swoje ciekawe sceny (te negocjacje o sowę z początku książki dalej mnie bawią XD chociaż wiem, że to może być kiedyś zupełnie prawdziwa sytuacja), ale generalnie nie jest on postacią budzącą zbyt wiele sympatii. androidy owszem, pojawiają się w nie tak małej ilości scen, mają też swoje momenty, ale jak już wspomniałem ich wpływ nie jest zbyt duży. co jest oczywiście zupełnie fair bo to nie miała być książka o przyjaźni i współpracy z nimi (jak było np. w "Pozytronowym detektywie" Asimova, którego czytałem jakiś czas temu), po prostu myślałem że jednak będzie więcej o ich relacjach z ludźmi, a nie [SPOILER SPOILER]:
a skoro już jesteśmy przy spoilerach, nie podobało mi się też, że ostateczne zabicie tej trójki androidów z mieszkania Isidore'a poszło tak łatwo, it was quite anticlimactic.
do tego cała ostatnia część książki??? to z mercerem i tak dalej. what the hell was that. jeśli ktoś chce przeczytać tę książkę, polecam przeczytać również wstęp do niej mówiący o autorze, bo to daje sporo kontekstu do pewnych wydarzeń, ale nadal było to... przeżycie.
nie podobało też to jak wszyscy traktowali Isidore'a, w rozdziałach w których się pojawiał było sporo ableizmu i tak jak wiem, że to było żeby pokazać jakie jest społeczeństwo w świecie tej książki i traktowanie w nim osób które nie są neurotypowe, tylko po prostu dziwnie się to czytało. w skrócie Isidore deserved better.
najlepszą sceną, podczas której myślałem że jednak naprawdę spodoba mi się ta książka, było gdy mniej więcej w połowie przez pewien czas nikt nie był pewien kto jest androidem a kto nie, to było naprawdę dobre. niestety nie trwało za długo.
i szczerze, najbardziej emocjonalnym momentem był dla mnie tamten jeden łowca mówiący o swojej wiewiórce. but what a moment it was.
nie powiem, że nie polecam tej książki, bo wiem że niektórym ludziom może się podobać, ale sam jestem trochę zawiedziony.
przepraszam jeśli piszę bez ładu i składu ale w tym upale nie da się myśleć, dziękuję za uwagę
