I received this book as an ARC. It is just as deserving of hype and renown as Fourth Wing and other popular romantasy titles. It was hard to put it down! It has elements that are reminiscent of Harry Potter and Fourth Wing but is still incredibly original in its writing. I'll definitely be buying this title once it comes out. Meanwhile, I'll be waiting with bated breath for the next in the series to come out! That ending!!

5/5 stars, all the way! I had the greatest pleasure of being able to snag an ARC of this book (thank you, Mariah!!) and boy am I forever a changed woman because of it! I literally couldn't put it down and had to read at every available opportunity. This story is so unique and if you're even questioning whether to pick up this book or not when it's out, I can tell you with all certainty that you will not regret it!! This is a magical college with such a mysterious world and such a wonderful love story. This wrecked me in the best kind of way and I can't even begin to explain without spoiling anything so please do yourself a favour and pick up this book when you can.
emotional funny mysterious fast-paced

I heard great things about this book before I started, but bloody hell, it was even better than I expected. I was hooked up from the first page and just couldn't stop reading. Such a fast-paced, full of mystery and action-packed book. It's just amazing! so many characters which you will love, and few characters which you will truly hate. Connection to nature, all the animals in this book, just have a special place in my heart. Can't wait to read the next book... please, Mariah Montoya, hurry up and publish it šŸ˜

One of the best magical systems I’ve read!

This book started out and actually stayed a 3.5 for me all the way up until the end and that ending pushed it into a 4 star read!

Starting with the characters. While I actually really liked all the characters I did however think some of the tropes between the characters could have been played out a little better. This book contains and insta-love trope between the FMC and the MMC and honestly it works as the book goes but I felt there was very little development between not knowing each other and then suddenly falling in love. The author did a phenomenal job with her found family trope though because man do I love the group of characters a whole lot.

The plot. I was a little lost for the plot sometimes but it all eventually comes together with a really good cliffhanger. As someone who usually hates cliffhangers the author made me want to keep reading the series just to see how it would go. I really enjoyed the whole plot to this book and was glad it didn’t take a back seat to the characters and their romances. Which can often happen in romance books when the characters go to magic school.

Now for the part I really loved. The magic system!! I don’t think I’ve ever read of a system like this and was honestly so amazed with this one. With magic school being 5 years everyone is taken to the school at 18, put through a branding ceremony, and then place into their respective departments. I love reading about the 5 magics as well as the magic that made the main characters so much different!

Over all I do highly recommend this book and will definitely be coming back for the next book in the series!

Where do I begin? I loved this book!! I received it as an ARC and it wholeheartedly captivated me. If you like romantasy with faeries, found family, academia, the whole touch her and you ā˜ ļø trope, and lots of world building then you’re going to love this book! Think Fourth Wing meets Divergent but with lots of unique twists

Wow this was such an incredible story! The world building wasn’t drawn out but was thorough enough for me to understand, whilst also introducing us to some cool characters. Definitely can’t wait to read the next one.

This book had me in a CHOKEHOLD! I received this as an e-arc and spent the last 48 hours completely DEVOURING this beautiful story. I could not put it down. I lost sleep.

Mariah outdid herself with this one. It’s absolutely incredible. The magic system was so unique and well thought out just plain fascinating! The world building was… chefs kiss. Seriously, it was so intricate and detailed that I could actually imagine every scene and facet of the institute and world in my mind and become completely immersed in it - but at the same time it was extremely easy to follow and understand.

The plot twists and turns kept me on my toes and screaming at my book several times! I did not see what was coming! The whole story and foreshadowing was so well executed!!

The characters had so much depth and were completely believable in all of their actions. I was living for the relationship between the MMC and MFC! I was hanging in every moment and every word.

But the ending…???? Please tell me she writes fast because I NEED more, more, more! And fast! I will definitely be buying a physical copy of this book as my shelf trophy and to re-read!

If you haven’t added this to your TBR yet, I highly recommend!

Derivative garbage with an AI cover.

I feel like this a book that younger me would have really enjoyed, and had I read this book 10 years ago, I probably would have loved it.  However, since I'm reading it in the present, I thought this book was just okay, and it didn't really stand out to me as something special. There were some elements that I really enjoyed, and I thought the magic in the book was pretty fun, but it just didn't feel like the most original or new story.  I think I just wasn't the target audience for the book, and it did feel quite young, although there was some sexual content in it.  I think I would classify this book on the upper end of YA and while some of my all time favorite fantasy books are YA books, I don't usually reach for them as much anymore because I prefer books with older characters.  Again, I think for someone 10 years younger than me, this book would be a hit, and younger me would have loved it, but some of the character conflicts felt very juvenile to me.  I understand that these characters are young, so their actions are going to reflect that, but my issue was with the way some of the characters interacted with each other.  It came across as very high school and I can't recall the last time I read a fantasy book where the words whore and slut were thrown around as an insult so much.  I feel like this book would fit in very well with books that came out in the 2010s but it's not really what I'm looking for to read in the present.  I mean I don't think it was a bad read but I don't see myself rushing out to read the next one.  I thought the book ended at an interesting place but again, I've read so many amazing books this year that I just don't think this book could compete with others I've read.
