This book is NOT taking you out of a reading slump. This book is really informative and if you want to deepen your knowledge of Stoicism and its characteristics, this is a perfect read. I give 3 stars because it really gets boring after some time (I read it on a Kindle, maybe it would have been better for me to read it physically lol) but overall, it teaches you A LOT and really makes you think about your own conviction and if how you are living is really making you happy. This is a need reading.

Seneca offers a powerful insight into stoicism and philosophy throughout this piece. I have been left with many wonderful quotes and annotations, which I will refer to for many years to come. I loved his words and found them powerful in their ability to symbolize the human condition.

I read the 1000 page version for this book and it is an excellent background audio material while you go about daily life, I reckon most people could use a drop of stoicism in their life!

The letters touch on foundational aspects of life and living, for example about idle pleasures, purpose, good and death. All of which seems rather relevant in today's modern world even though the book is rather old, it seems we have not changed so much, or that human nature is the same as it ever has been.

It's probably worth at least reading the shorter penguin version of the book unless you want to become a super stoic.

Not the complete letters apparently. And I’m not sure about the translation. Some of the terminology seemed anachronistic. Still, such accessible intellectuality. Mostly sage advice that is still applicable today. Wouldn’t mind reading more about him.

oh, en last but not least, seneca’s werk is erg toegankelijk geschreven :)

DID NOT FINISH

This book was beyond boring. The first letter was good, but eventually, I just got bored. Not only did he often repeat himself but he kept contradicting himself as well, it was just an annoying read, which is why I'm not finishing it. I don't want to waste my time reading this when I know I probably won't learn much either. I read it and forgot it because it was so boring.
