Love how each book is far enough apart from the previous to deal with the ramifications of the previous. And how the world adapts to the changes.

This book was, ultimately, the satisfying tieing-off of many loose strings left from the first and second books. But I could frankly have done without it, because it was least enjoyable of all three: it felt jumbled, without a clear direction. Only at the very end I understood what the narrative wanted to establish -- perhaps it is better when reread. Unfortunately, I couldn't get myself to care for the main character (Sieh) or his conflict (becoming mortal), which spoiled much of the book for me. It's not a bad book and NK Jemisin is to all accounts still a wonderful writer, but I wonder if I would have enjoyed this trilogy more if had only been the first book.

At first I was not interested in Sieh as the focus. At all. I can see how his story took Jemisin and compelled her to write about him though. He is compelling. This book took me longer to read than any of her other books in the 2 trilogies I’ve read so far. More to chew?
