I’m me, she thought wonderingly. But who am I?
I liked the nuance of gender identity, that was my favourite part.

Spoiler You lose a body part, and all of a sudden you’re eager to show off what extras you have?

I think this is the best book I’ve read this year!

All of the characters has that depth to them that makes them feel alive, even the side characters who often disappear for a while. I feel so much for each of the characters I love, and I absolutely disdain the ones I hate.

The world building is also spectacular. I imagine myself inside of this fantastic world, and feel like I can taste the air. Absolutely splendid!

But the most wonderful thing is that the story is superb. The characters do what they need to do, even though they hate it. I think the story will be about this little monk boy, and then she turns into a warlord. I want the himbo and the sour patch kid to become lovers, and they disappoint me so much. I never seem to get where the story is taking me, and I can’t say I’m disappointed.

I just can’t wait to read more from Shelley Parker-Chan in the future!
