**on Reread in 2024 it's amazing how many small hints lead up to this point. I really love the hints dropped for the future of the series too. Paramount War is done incredibly well in that it show cases major powers in the world to remind the reader the Straw Hats are very much small fry still.
After seeing the Celestial Dragons the timing for this war is also perfect. ***
The beginning of the much anticipated Whitebeard War!!!

➽ The Summit war kicks off in volume 57! I'm usually not a big fan of the fight-driven scenes, but I think the Manga is better at showing us the war compared to the Anime. The Arc has almost 100 episodes in the Anime and feels way more drawn out. In this volume, I thought things moved along more quickly. I loved the focus on Ace as he's reflecting on how he joined Whitebeard and became part of his family. Despite everyone announcing that he is Gold Roger's son, Ace insists that his only true father is Whitebeard, who has given him everything! However, the Navy sees him as a threat like Roger and are afraid he'll become the second pirate king, even though that was never Ace's wish. They'll do anything to execute him, but Whitebeard appears to fight and take back his son. I loved seeing how important his family is to him and how he's facing off against Navy Headquarters! Ace is begging them to leave him to his fate, but his crewmates are ready to fight for him!
➽ Luffy finally joins the fight as well with his mismatched allies. I loved how Buggy's cowardice once again gets mistaken for arrogance by his new followers, who think he's facing Whitebeard as an equal. It's one of my favorite gags since you can see Buggy's panic and how he doesn't intend to gain this much respect and worship. He simply gets into these situations by accident and manages to fool everyone 😂 The fighting is already explosive since the Admirals, Navy and Warlords are working together. Iva apparently knows Kuma and is horrified to see that he's been fully turned into a cyborg with no free will. Crocodile goes rogue since he's got bad blood with Whitebeard, but is unable to harm him. I loved his squabbles with Doflamingo, his former warlord colleague who taunts and teases him 😂
