I found this a lot more tolerable than the previous volume, and it helps that Miaka actually does stuff in this book. Plus, there's more of Yui and her squad and what they do having actual consequences for Miaka's group. Not crazy about the contrived back and forth drama of Miaka and Tamahome.

NOOOOO! Nuriko!!! She/he just got even more awesome then before! All insightful and with a hot new haircut, she/he can't be dead!!! Waaaaaah!

Oh and as for the review part, this series is awesome.

No matter how many times I read or watch this series.. It's still fucking painful for me to see Nuriko's death..

The Suzaku seishi land in an island overrun by fierce women. In order to not get killed, they crossdress as women. Mitsukake is unconvincing and is captured while the rest are warmly welcomed. However, they find out that the captured men are enslaved, are used as seeders, and have their eyeballs gouged out. The gang narrowly escapes Soi thanks to Hotohori's sword, and the women thanks to Chichiri going Moses and the Red Sea on them.

They arrive at Hokkan finally and are taken in by a tribe. Their elder tells them the legend of the Genbu no Miko and how she may or may went back to her own world after the summoning. This worries both Miaka and Tamahome, who are unsure of their relationship's future.

I don't know about that scene of Nuriko cutting his braid off because he can't be womanly and delicate when being a seishi. Sexism stuff. Kinda transphobic.

This volume ends in a sad note, though. :'(

Nope, my feels. I see my character curse is still in full effect that whoever is my favourite inevitably dies.

This one was a bit more plot heavy than some of the others, but it definitely makes sense now that everyone’s backstories are pretty much flushed out. I was not expecting
Nuriko to have so much going on - deciding to be done with dressing as a woman, letting her late sister go, and then her (possible?) death… yikes. I really hope it isn’t the end for there and that Mitsukake can save her.
Hopefully we’ll get some answers in the next volume!

OMG I remembered this but didn't think it happened so soon into the story. Well, I guess it's a little over halfway through the main story arc.

I'm just glad the translator stuck with using the pronoun she during the funeral scene.

So you build poor Nuriko up and then you let her die. Kill your gays much? It's nice to get a lot of development for her, but killing characters is not the answer.
