i loved this book!
i usually enjoy Colleen Hoover’s books for the most part because i really like her writing style, but in some of the books i’ve read by her, it seems like there’s more sex scenes than story, which isn’t my preference. but this one was majority storyline. and it was a damn good storyline!
i found it to be raw, heartfelt, and just really, really good. i read it in two days and had trouble putting it down as the tension continued to build.
the growth of Kenna was so nice to witness as she embarked on the path of self-forgiveness, which proved to be incredibly difficult.
this book was honest. there are women like Kenna everywhere. children like Diem all over the place. pain, hatred, blame, etc., living in the nooks and crannies of millions of lives.
i feel like this book shined a light on the shadows of truth often left avoided.
Reminders of Him was immediately placed as my favorite Colleen Hoover novel thus far and i’m really not sure it will ever lose that title.

Alright… This one was a miss! I was so close to DNF – ING this book. I enjoyed the happy ending, but this book honestly moved so slow and I couldn’t identify with any of the characters. Especially the main character, Kenna….
“Now that I forgiven myself, the reminders of him only make me smile.“
“Maybe it doesn’t matter whether something is a coincidence or a sign. Maybe the best way to cope with the loss of the people. We love is to find them in as many places and things, as we possibly can. And in the off chance that the people we lose, are still somehow able to hear us, maybe we should never stop talking to them.“

My absolutely favorite coho book I finished in 1 day and it had me in tears.
Update 2.5 years later I’m bumping from 5 to 4 I’ve read way too many good books since.

Despite all the negative ratings, I think this book was a solid read, so I’ll even go as far as to giving it a 3.75/5⭐️.
It’s not as heartbreaking as I thought it would be but I got where the characters came from and where they went along the storyline. Although at times some parts felt a little repetitive.
On the other hand I can see why a lot of people might enjoy it a lot more than I did.

“…life is a cruel, cruel thing, the way it picks and chooses who to bully. We’re given these shitty circumstances and told by society that we, too, can live the American dream. But what they don’t tell us is that dreams almost never come true.”
Talk about ripping my heart out... Colleen Hoover absolutely delivered with this one. This story made me sit back and ponder how many times we look at things as black and white. We get so busy with our lives and we are so entrenced with our own grief, that we don't stop to think about the other side. This story made me look at both sides, something I need to do more often.
I felt deeply for Kenna and for Scotty's parents, and everyone who was impacted by his death. How can you move on, how can you forgive, how can you have hope? It had me ugly crying, still am in a way. This was a very raw and heavy book and there weren't many times that it was lighthearted. I felt so many feelings and emotions while reading this book; grief, anger, loneliness, sadness, hopefulness, happiness and that's just a few. Spin the emotional wheel, you won't ever lose no matter where it stops.
I loved every bit of Ledger and Kenna's story, but this was a story where every character had a deep impact, especially Scotty. I can't tell you that this is a happy story. It was hard not to cry through most of it, if I'm being honest. But somehow reading this one makes me feel better as a person. I think I needed to be reminded of the many sides of life. It gave me some hope for humanity. And I need that hope right now.
Be ready for heartache when you read this. Then be ready to have hope again.
