LOVED this book. Along with "S" and "The Historian," it's now one of my favorite books about books (and so much more).

Worth a read just for the character Fermin.

A gripping noir filled with aching romance, grim realities, ridiculous old men, and dizzying layers. A novel about the magic of novels, and a protagonist searching for a man who is a mirror of himself. It overflows with details of 1900s Barcelona and characters so rich, you can’t help but fall in deep.

The end felt a bit rushed but I forgive the author because this book was damn good.

DID NOT FINISH

Long winded, dull, extremely cheesy and ineloquently written. Like a less readable version of Dan Brown. I stopped half way because I just didn't care. The plot might have been enjoyable if the writing was better. Perhaps it lost a lot in translation?

It was a hard book for me to enjoy. So much sexisms and agesim and I didn't find the story compelling at all.
