i read this two years after finishing the first, so i was a bit lost. perhaps for that reason, the beginning/middle dragged a bit for me. but the end was super good!
more detailed thoughts: i didn’t expect reina to get so boring. i liked her in the first book but suddenly she is not wise and powerful, she’s petty and vengeful. also i just kept waiting and waiting for callum to pick himself up. reading his perspective was interesting except that he just droned on in every chapter about how he didn’t care. and yeah suddenly he did care at the end but i was done with him. i liked parisa and libby’s arcs though. i thought they both made developments that made sense and were interesting. and i remember not liking tristan in the first book but he was way more tolerable in this one, and i actually think i liked him. and i still like nico fs

I feel a little stupid while reading these books, but I do end up really enjoying them! I would definitely not be recruited by either the society or the forum

I would give this book more than 5 stars if I could. I think this series is going to be one that I reread multiple times ad each time I'm going to put new connections together. Blake continues with the themes from the first book with magic being intertwined with physics and still to this day is the most creative magic system I've ever read about. But with book two, she adds in this urgency of end of the world like destruction is on the horizon. The best way I can recommend this book to someone is just read it. Trust me, a stranger on the internet, and go read these books.
