DID NOT FINISH

Unsure whether I'll get back to this. I kept having trouble picking it up.

This one didn't grab me like the first one did, unfortunately. It just wasn't nearly as exciting, and I really struggled to get through it. I am hoping that the next book will be better.

Not overly impressed with this book. In fact I nearly put it down 300 pages in, but once you're that far in you kind of want to plough on.
This wasn't really a sequel to inkheart by cornelia funke. In fact it felt more like a sequel to inkheart by fenoglio, with a few extra characters thrown in so the plot could be changed willy nilly without much thought. I didn't enjoy reading this very much, and found it quite hard work. 2/5 is all I'm afraid.
adventurous lighthearted slow-paced

I’ll send to let you know when I want words again. They are sweet-tasting poison, but still, they’re the only way to make even pain taste bittersweet for a few moments.

I feel like many of my qualms about Inkheart have been resolved in Inkspell. The pacing feels better (even if it still took a while to read), and the tension of the plot built more steadily, with fewer interruptions.

A few chapters near the end of the book were exciting and emotional. Otherwise, the book felt like words on a page rather than a story.
