Probably more of a 3.5 stars. This series didn't grab me as much as other dystopian novels. I appreciated the fairly happy reconciliation of love interests and most off the plot loose ends.
This review was originally posted on Bedtime Bookworm** This is the third book in the Matched series. There may be spoilers in this review for Matched, and Crossed, the first two books in the series. **
One thing I loved about this series was that each book had a completely different setting. Same world of course, but exposed to different parts of it. This book was a great finale to this series, I loved it and the series as a whole so much! Following the pattern of the first two books, this book is told in alternating POVs from Cassia, Ky, and Xander. It was really great to see the story from Xander’s POV finally!
I loved the way the love triangle played out in this book. It felt natural to me and I could really understand and feel the way Cassia felt for each of these boys and how she came to her decision. The best part for me was that the guy she didn’t pick goes on to find love again before the end of the book. I felt like the things happening in these relationships was realistic and real. Love isn’t perfect and that’s the truth!
Now, I’m not a poetry girl, never really have been. Poetry has always seemed so abstract and hard for me to connect with compared to a concrete book with characters and a story line. I loved the way the poetry was woven right into the story. I could make parallels between the poems and the story. I had situations I could apply the poem to, to be able to visualize it. The writing in this book was a good reminder of the beauty and power of words.
This book was action packed and a page turner! I could hardly put it down. Things really picked up near the middle of the book. Got my heart beating fast! I remember when I was right around 50% through I kept thinking “How can I only be half way through, so much stuff is happening??!!” The book kept me on my toes and every twist and turn left me hungry for more.
I loved this book and I loved this series! Ally Condie is amazing! I can’t wait to read more of her. I recommended this series to my sister and she loved it too! She read the first book, Matched, in less than 24 hours, just like I did. If you’re someone who would enjoy a YA dystiopian novel with a good and believable love story, you have to read the Matched series!

Loved the Love Story

I loved that she stuck with Ky, even though originally I was rooting for Xander. As the story played out, I fell in love with Ky along with Cassia, and I was glad she ended up with him in the end. I loved Xander as a character too! I thought it was great that he could respect Ky the way he does even when they were vying for the same girl. And I loved the way he slowly falls for another girl and his relationship with Cassia changes into a friendship.Loved the Poetry

A great conclusion to the trilogy, though fairly predictable. A quick, fun read.
It was a great ending and a happily ever after. I'm happy with all the decisions that Ally Condie made for the characters. HAPPY!! SATISFYIED!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
i'm not sure how to feel about this. the first book was good, but the second book was better. the conclusion? i felt like it could have happened completely different. the only thing i'm happy about is cassia stayed with ky and xander found love (i'm a sap, i know). but who did they choose as their "leader"? i'm assuming we as a reader have to decide for ourselves. i had high hopes for this series but in the end i was just disappointed and that makes me very sad.
I'm totally Team Xander but I don't know if I think Cassia deserved him. It's a pretty predictable ending and I didn't love flipping back and forth between characters but I get why it was done. Would I reread this series? Probably not just because I felt the ending was unsatisfying.
Too soon? Maybe. (With the airborne/viral plague plot). But, immensely well done.
I was completely nervous near the end that Ky was done for. I wasn't sure if the author would follow the pattern of the Divergent trilogy and how realistic she'd make it, because sometimes people die. Whew.
Hunter. Agh. Like so mad, but also so heartbroken. It makes sense what he does, but ugh.
Whoa. I didn't see the "twist" with Lei coming. That was actually awesome.
And THIS : "Writing, painting, singing - it cannot stop everything. Cannot halt death in its tracks. But perhaps it can make the pause between death's footsteps sound and look and feel beautiful, can make the space of waiting a place where you can linger without as much fear. For we are all walking each other to our deaths, and the journey there between footsteps, make up our lives." YES, JUST YES.
And there's so much to wonder, which as Cassia points out, may be the point. As in what is in the Otherlands, what happens next, what did happen to ALL of the Markhams. We can only wonder.
Good read.

Average ending. not as strong as the first book. Sometimes it feels as though she just wanted to finish the series because she was over it (or her publisher was hounding her?).
