Captivating and timeless

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I was surprised to discover how long ago it was written, and found the story very hard to put down!

i cannot express more how bored i was while reading this book. every scene was just people walking and talking and talking and talking about other people's businesses.
everyone is apparently high-class and that irritated me because nothing is more annoying than following what rich people are doing.
i don't understand why people ship darcy and elizabeth so much. i find them quite boring and the ending was rushed just to establish their relationship so everyone can have a happy ending.
a solid three stars for me.

I feel I have read this before, and if I haven't I was already familiar with the story. It made me laugh aloud at the beginning, though I do understand the questioning over the way in which Mr Bennett treats Mrs Bennett. I read it in preparation for going to Austentatious, which was not as Austen heavy as I had thought it would be which was lucky as this was the only Austen I had read!

When the dialogue is rolling or it's reflecting on its societal critiques the book can be engaging, surprising, and witty. The book needs a good amount of set up, done beautifully and expressively, in order to accomplish those moments but it pays off. The only thing lacking, for me, is the same attention to character development, tho there is some, and characters are well defined. To that end it's the relationships between them that are considerately constructed and afford opportunities for analysis.

As a young woman in the Regency era, Miss Elizabeth Bennett (along with her four sisters) must secure her future by marrying a wealthy man. But Elizabeth does not want to only marry for money, she wants to choose a husband who will be an equal partner to her. Throughout the course of a year, Elizabeth meets must challenge her preconceived notions of two suitors and learn to be less prejudiced.

A fantastic coming-of-age story of Elizabeth Bennett, a flawed but wonderful and fun character.
