This series has great potential but I found this one to be a bit slow. I love Lark Taylor so I’m willing to give it the benefit of two writers learning to mesh together and weave a story for the first time. I found it dragged a lot and could have maybe even just been a novela to introduce the other characters and the Firm. I found it to be annoyingly slow on the reveal when I clocked who Mathias's family would be from the start. The back and forth was hard to bear at sometimes because I just wanted to shake the characters and tell them to rip the damn plaster off. It was felt angsty just to be angsty. I would have liked more of Matthias’s pov, I get they were probably trying to keep the readers in the dark along with Wyatt but I pretty much knew from the beginning without all the information. The epilogue was more intriguing than the first book combined and that is the kind of energy the first book was lacking. I’m willing to read the second one and give it a chance but hopefully the series only goes up from here.

It was fun. More of a set up for the more interesting stories with the brothers in my opinion. Parts of the misunderstanding didn’t even really make sense but it was fun.

I feel like Lark and Cora's new series will be a hit, this first book was certainly one I enjoyed greatly. The mysterious Firm and anyone who is part of it is incredibly intriguing. These two authors masterfully waved their story, slowly revealing who is behind granting wishes ... while punishing people at the same time. Wyatt desperation forces him to make a wish ... and the punishment comes in the form of marriage. And while Wyatt gets the care he wants for his injured brother, he also gets a husband who is none other than his hated enemy (and his childhood best friend). The narrative slowly reveals the past in flashbacks and it's painful, heartbreaking, and at times feels like nothing can fix it. But as we get to know Wyatt and Matt better, as we witness their fights, emotional ups and downs, and as we see the heat slowly rising between them, the story changes into a deeply emotional and loving one. Cannot wait for the next book in the series!
I received a copy of this book from the authors and this is my honest review.
