Really enjoyed the narrative structure of this book, and its narrator Thandi, whose relationships with her culture/identity and family I found deeply relatable. The story was rich without being weighed down by overly descriptive language (although there were places I wished for more). I only put it down once, and only because the style took a little bit of acclimation; once I fell into the rhythm I finished the rest in one sitting.

This book's story could be interesting, but it's very confusing to read. It's not written in chronological order, which can work, but on top of that it switches view points a few times (which I only noticed because at one point the view point changed genders) and inserts articles or book excerpts. This wouldn't be a problem if there was some way of telling that the book was doing this, either by putting titles on the chapters that relate to POV change or changing the formatting (i.e. font) when it's not from the main character's POV.
