I wish I could rate the parts of the book separately…

This book is split up into three parts Finny’s, Jack’s, and lastly Autumn’s. I enjoyed seeing other perspectives but I wish we also got Sylvie’s or that we saw more of her in general I felt it would have matched the theme of healing this book has since she has a lot of healing to do herself.

I was super excited to see that ‘If he had been with me’ had a sequel, and that it was the same story but written from  POVs. This was my first book I’ve read where the story was the same but the POVs were different and I loved it! You really got to see more of what Finny thought throughout the whole thing, along with seeing how Jack and Autumn grieved. The only reason I gave it a 4.5 is because I would’ve loved to have gotten a POV from Sylvie. I think that would have tied it up together nicely. Overall, amazing book!

I’ve been over my sad girl era for quite some time, but when I heard there would be a companion book to If He Had Been With Me, I knew I needed to read it. This was certainly a heavy read that I feel like as a teenager I don’t think I would fully appreciate it for the story being told. But I am not a teenager so that didn’t happen. I did really appreciate seeing from two people who loved Finny deeply and how they navigated their own grief. Grief is different for everyone but also so relatable at the same time. I also appreciated while every character had their flaws (as we all do) these characters are still innately good to the core and I really respect the author built them that way.

As someone who is just coming out in the early stages of grief I felt this book to be rather healing and of course relatable. Though I don’t think I would have been ready to read this when my grief was so very fresh. All that to say this is a very heavy book to read so if you are not in the place mentally to read something like this, hold off until you’re better spot.

I will definitely be carrying this story with me for a while - partly because it’s a heavy one, but also it’s a reminder of those once lost and how they would want us to carry on.

Jesus. Nowlin does it again. I legit cried the whole book. I can't even describe how horrible and amazing this book is. The book is divided into three parts between Finn, Jack, and Autumn. This gives us two additional insights we didn't have in the previous book and the story extends beyond the first book. It was a tad hard to follow in the beginning as I made the mistake of not reading the first book again but I don't feel like i'm missing all that much as it goes on. The chapters are shot enough that I dont feel like it drags but long enough that it feels like every chapter is detailed. I won't spoil it but good lord every bit of this book was so sad I was crying from page 25 till the end. Thank you so much to Laura Nowlin for finishing this series even when you said it was over!

This was a great sequel. I’m glad that Jack and Autumn’s POVs were included as well as Finny’s to further develop the story and give insight into what happens after Finny dies.
