Reviewed for Wit and Sin
Ad exec Beatrice Archer has had enough with the LA rat race and her misogynistic boss. She’s quit her job and – after throwing a dart at a map – moved to Credence, Colorado where she drinks beer for breakfast, has pie for dinner, and her life is all Dean Winchester and sweatpants 24/7. She’s followed the rules all her life and where has it gotten her? Now she’s determined to break all the rules and her unexpected ally is sexy cop Austin Cooper. Austin is charmed – and deliciously dangerous to Bea’s state of mind – but throwing caution to the wind she falls into his arms. But what happens when reality intrudes on the new life Bea has built?
Breaking All the Rules is zany, fun, and an all-around good time. Bea has thrown her orderly life into chaos and is embracing the messy at the beginning of this book. She’s a hoot but there’s deeper soul-searching to be done over the course of the story. Bea has lived her life coloring within the lines and it was fun to see her break out of it. She needed to find what she wanted out of life and though it wasn’t a smooth path to finding that, it was an entertaining journey. Falling for a cop ten years younger than her wasn’t even on her radar, but who could resist Austin? He’s kind, charming, and totally dazzled by Bea even when she’s got unwashed hair and is eating ice cream in her bunny slippers. The age difference between them isn’t as big an obstacle as Bea seems to think and these two soon-to-be-lovers are a great fit from the start. Their banter was fun and their romance so easy to be charmed by.
Breaking All the Rules isn’t the first book set in Amy Andrews’s Credence, Colorado but you can easily jump in here without missing anything. The town is one I’d love to live in, filled with welcoming residents and pie so delicious I was ready to salivate along with Bea. All in all, I enjoyed Bea’s journey; I was rooting for her to claim the direction her life would take, I thought her romance with Austin was sweet with a good dash of spice, the town of Credence was wonderful, and the cherry on top was one very regal scene-stealer, a snaggletooth cat named Princess.

This is an age gap romance where the FMC is about 10 years older than the MMC. At times, however, it felt like Austen was the one giving advice and being the worldly wise person. So although the author keeps pressing the age gap issue, it didn’t feel like they were that far apart in maturity. This wouldn’t be an issue, except the age gap is one of the major reasons the FMC resists the relationships.
Pros: This was one of the spicier books I’ve read in a while. The steamy scenes were well done and not overtly graphic. I thought there was a good balance of on page versus fade to black. The characters were well-developed and I was rooting for the couple to get together.
Cons (for me): The narrator really put me off. I had to listen at 2x in order to not want to rip my EarPods off. Something about the way she drew out the endings of her words/sentences just irked me. Admittedly, I have misophonia, so weird sounds trigger me. Secondly, I found a lot of the writing very cliche even for a romance. It leaned into tropes and descriptions that I’ve read a million times. The premise of the FMC not wanting to be with the MMC because of some mommy issues seemed a bit of a stretch.
Overall, it was a quick, easy, steamy, but not very memorable read. I enjoyed it while I was reading, but didn’t feel compelled to pick it up to see what was going to happen next.
I would like to thank NetGalley, the author, and the publishers for providing this ARC copy to read and review. All the statements above are my true opinions after fully reading the book.

Breaking All The Rules by Amy Andrews is such a wholesome, feel good rom com about Bea, who has just abandoned her life in LA. After missing out on the promotion to Ad Executive at the firm she’s spent years proving herself at, Bea finds herself in Credence, Colorado where she’s hidden away in an apartment binge watching Supernatural and drinking beers for breakfast. Then she meets Austin who is a very handsome, much younger police officer who always knows exactly what to say. Austin sets out to help Bea live a life very different from her one back home in LA.
I was hooked in this book from the very first chapter, I loved Bea’s f-it attitude and her absolute disregard for societal expectations. Austin is so sweet and warm and willing to do anything for her. Bea begins to relax into her new life and works through some personal struggles and outside pressures while really finding a home within the new friends she’s made. I wish we got more of an insight into her background, life in LA and her family. Also I’m generally not a huge fan of 3rd act breakups but you kind of knew it was coming and the author wrote it very well. I also wish there was a male narrator for Austin’s POV, it would have made his perspective stronger.
But overall I really enjoyed Bea and Austin’s chemistry, the steam definitely came through in the audiobook. I want to thank NetGalley and RB media for the audio copy in exchange for an honest review. I’m very much looking forward to ready more from Amy Andrews.

This is for when you want to chuck it all and not fall in with any societal expectations. Bea has been following rules all her life, first from her dad and then her employer. But she keeps getting passed over for promotion. So she quits and decides to live on her own terms. Office Austin Cooper offers to help her in her quest.
I enjoyed Bea's journey, but I didn't really feel the romance with Austin at first. It started really quickly and seemed completely based on physical chemistry. I did enjoy the reverse age gap with Bea being 35 to his 25. And over time, I came to appreciate other aspects of their relationship as well.
My favorite parts of the book focused on Bea. She meets such great characters in Credence, Colorado. I especially loved all of the women who, like her, had come from bigger cities. And the puns from Austin's father are pretty fun, too.
I think the book needs a warning label: have pie ready. There were so many descriptions of amazing baked goods, especially pie, throughout. This book sent me to my local bakery the next morning.
Thank you to Entangled and TLC Book Tours for the advanced copy. These opinions are my own.
