The writing here is very staccato almost to the point of being cryptic, but now that I've finished reading the book, that seems to be the point. Early on, I found things hard to follow, well written prose, but not easy to keep things in context. As I got farther and farther into the story, things did start to gel. As I finished reading it, I found myself wondering not just how to review such a book, but if I should even try. It's almost like overeating, waiting for the bits to settle, before knowing that it was a great meal.

I will confess that it took a couple of days to realize that CARBON is a 5-star read. It is both well written and beautifully obscure. In a world where so many books seem formulaic, this one stands out as a unique reading experience.
