Ms. Tree, Vol. 3: The Cold Dish is the 3rd graphic novel collection in the Ms. Tree, pulp fiction, hard-boiled PI series by Max Allan Collins. Like the other collections, it's gritty and tough and Ms. Michael Tree leaves a trail of bodies in her wake.

Vol. 3 is a flashback edition. In it we learn about Michael's relationship with PI Mike Tree (yup, same names), how it came about, their marriage, Mike's murder on their honeymoon and Ms. Tree's efforts to find out who killed him. We also meet Mike Jr for the first time and also Ms. Tree's partners in the PI business set up by her dead husband.

It's an action - filled collection with attempts on Ms. Tree's life, witnesses being bumped off, Ms. Tree's partners being attacked, betrayal by perceived friends and even a bit of sex. The drawings are well done, the first collection is in black & white, the next in color. All in all, it's an entertaining collection and provides a great introduction to Ms. Tree's career. Vol 4 is on order (3.5 stars)
