Chilling. Terrifying. Horrific.
The Reformatory follows a young boy named Robert Stephens who gets sent to a reformatory (dozier school for boys) after kicking a white boy.
This is about a 600 page book and not for a SECOND did it feel it. It is an amazingly fast read that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
One of my favorite things this book does is it goes into how how unfair and racist our systems are by having you live in the pov of the people who are getting abused by these systems. This book is heartbreaking.
I feel in love with the characters who never felt flat or overdone. I believe this book has one of the most well crafted and twisted horror villain I have ever seen. Haddock is actually terrifying in all the right (wrong ) ways.
I would love to see this be adapted in its entirety and boldness into a tv show.
If you are white then you need to absolutely read this book.

I had high hopes for this book going in and it lived up to my expectations 1,000%! It was dark, it was heavy, it was emotional, but it was so good. I could not turn off the audio and just devoured the whole thing.
