i don’t rly have any thoughts to share. with the hype, i expected more. it felt very dramatic and High Stakes and philosophical but since i didn’t really get a strong intro into these characters & this world, i was like “ok great. i know im supposed to care but i don’t”
tldr; i wasn’t invested in this one

These characters are awful, pretentious, and have indiscernible (or maybe just flimsy) motives and yet they were oddly compelling. I still don't understand any of them, or the magic/theory, but I couldn't stop reading.

EDIT: So now I’ve read this twice, and I’m bumping this up to a 4.5. Mostly because I appreciated Olivie’s AMBITIOUS writing on physics, quantum physics, and just science stuff in general. Homegirl had me googling so much and the added knowledge added to the experience and made me enjoy that much more. I also ended up liking the characters more the second time around?
Picasso.....I like it!
This story left me confused and with regret...
Confused because I don't understand HOW I liked it so much! The story is about snobby ass academic people in a secret society all competing with each other. Not much happened in terms of plot. There was a lot of inner dialogues and a lot of snobby writing. But I GOBBLED it up. I ended up liking the majority of the characters (Libby MY GIRLLL) and I was sooo curious about where the story was going. The snobby writing was PERFECT for the setting and it never took away from the story in my opinion.
And regret because.........I wish I would have read this closer to the second book release cause now I gotta wait MONTHS before I find out what happens next after THAT ENDING.
I just wish we would have gotten more interactions...more bonding, more banter... More insight into what being housed together for a year looks like.
Believe the hype with this one my friends. It scratched that dark academia itch.
