Still have mixed feelings about this book, even though I've had a few hours to think about it. It's wonderfully written, engaging, and terrifying, overall an awesome book. Very intense read.

The horror was great and the writing was atmospheric, immersive and sometimes funny.
But the family-dynamics and Annas dysfunctional relationship with her "loved ones" was by far the most engaging part of the book.

Anna as a character was very relatable in the way she was done being misunderstood by her parents and siblings, who actually hate her for simply being herself and painting her as someone she really isnt. To see these relationships unravel throughout the course of the book was just amazing

Disturbing, grotesque, and darkly humorous. A highly annoying and dysfunctional family goes on a trip to Italy. Of course, the fifteenth century villa they're staying in is super haunted.

Anna is probably one of my favorite book characters I've ever read. She's tough and utterly exasperated dealing with a leach of a poltergeist (cause who has time for that?) I can sort of relate to her--minus the poltergeist.
