I had the good (mis)fortune(?) of reading this book while on a very frustrating family vacation and had the surreal experience of feeling like I was looking into a funhouse mirror. From start to finish, I was gripped by the descriptions in the book that capture the oppressive feeling of being the black sheep in a dysfunctional family that blames you for everything that goes wrong. There is a particular experience of walking on eggshells whenever you go home to visit, just waiting for the “calm” to break, that this book makes viscerally real. I read this entire book in a day. If you enjoy gothic horror, this is the book for you.

Creepy, unsettling, and real in equal measures. Both a ghost and psychological story with lots of creepy moments. Definitely worthwhile!!

The dialogue/family drama was so relatable/accurate. It dragged after about 40% through though. Probably could have used some more editing. Nothing really scary, but definitely spooky! I enjoyed it. Looooved the first half, though.

Maybe could have used some more unreliable narrator toward the end to make it more twisty?

But seriously. Fuck that entire family. Except the kids. They’re great.

This was a fantastic and funny horror book. The MC's family were totally insufferable, and I really enjoyed how that added to the atmosphere of things around her being terrible. I really enjoyed this one!
