Everything about the rec center feels too lucky: That Morris finds the rec center as a haven as well, that Pete's mom still being conscious enough to notice where Pete went including that he took a key from the wall, that it was the only key missing and the key hook was labeled. Just all aligned a little too neatly.

3 stars because as always king has a very appealing writing style and strong voice, and i wouldn't say it's a bad book, just forgettable in my eyes compared to his other works.
Graphic: Murder, Blood, and Death
Moderate: Homophobia and Fatphobia
Minor: Racism and Sexual content

I’m not joking there are pretty graphic scenes of rape and sexual violence, a good chunk of it taking place in prison. Near the end there’s also a graphic death involving fire.
