The Return of the Witch by Paula Brackston is the sequel to The Witch’s Daughter. Gideon Masters is free after five years. Elizabeth Anne Hawksmith knows that he will immediately come after Teagan, apprentice Hedge Witch. Gideon is stronger than ever thanks to some help. Despite their fortifications, Teagan is taken. Elizabeth will do whatever she must to get her back. After doing some investigating, Elizabeth finds out that Gideon has taken Teagan back in time. Elizabeth enlists the help of a Time Stepper to go back in time and rescue Teagan from the ruthless Gideon. Will her journey be successful?

In order to understand and enjoy The Return of the Witch, you do need to return The Witch’s Daughter (otherwise you will be lost). I have to admit that I had a very hard time reading Return of the Witch. I found it extremely slow paced (and boring). The writing is stilted and awkward to read (lacks a good flow). I was never able to get into the story and enjoy it. I give The Return of the Witch 3 out of 5 stars. This book was just not my style. I wanted to like it (because I really like books with witches and magic in them). Books are like people. They are each unique and appeal to different individuals.

I received a complimentary copy of The Return of the Witch from NetGalley in exchange for an honest evaluation of the novel.

Not quite as entertaining as the first, and there are a couple of inconsistencies between books, but still a nice, quick beach read.

Full of magic and travel and strong women. I didn't expect more fur Teagan and Elizabeth but I found this a welcome addition.

Disappointing... A sequel for a book that didn't need a sequel.

Took me a while to read this as I was taking a summer class at the time, but it was still and great read and I loved it. The ending was good but vague. Makes me wonder if it was done purposefully to leave room for another book or a spin-off about one of the main characters.

Let me first thank NetGalley and Thomas Dunne Books (St Martin's Press) for granting me access to this ARC.
Now I did not read The Witch's Daughter and I think that's why I had a hard time connecting with the characters.

The writing is good, vivid and clear. There witchcraft, magic, time travel, women leads who are strong and powerful.

But I could not connect with the characters and I still don't have a full understanding of the Gillian's motivations.

I think I need to read the first book, then revisit this one.

This 2 book story was so magical. Only the Gretel series has topped this wonderful tale of a witch coming into her own, another letting go, and evil getting its just desserts.

I wished there was more of Tegan's travel stories and a build up to Erasmus and Elizabeth's romance.
