Let me start by confessing I'm a big fan of Calvino. The reason I like him isn't only because of his wonderful writing or his rich vocabulary, but because he's one of the few writers with such an outstanding imagination. Even though they have very different styles, he reminds me of Borges' rich imagination. Few authors are within the same league.
This book is yet another masterpiece of Calvino. Short memories of imaginary (or not) cities, woven with a narrator's voice that brings coherence to everything. It's a small but wonderful reading where those that have travel extensively will identify similar reflections around the nature of cities.

We've been told that Marco Polo's travelogues were so fantastic that the rest of the world had a difficult time believing if they were true.
It was fun to listen to Polo tell of the incredible cities that he has seen, to the skeptical conqueror Kublai Khan.

Calvino's Marco Polo: expert explorer or fanciful flâneur? Either way, you're guided by whimsy and imagination through the conjured city streets.
