Audiobook. Read by Avi Rogue who is a fine reader, if a little stiff in places.

This is the second in the Swor  Soldier Series and follows Lt. Alex Easton's travels and experience  with "innocent monsters," as Easton kaself put it.

The story is fast-paced, which is at odds with how late the real gothic horror action takes place, as opposed to What Moves the Dead, which got into the creep-factor right from the getgo.

Once the first-hand horror starts, it is very well done and is an amazing concept; there just wasn't enough of it and earlier in the plot.

I don't know if Kingfisher will continue the series, but I will be on the lookout. While "Feasts" doesn't have the same punch as "Moves," it's still enjoyable and one I will listen to again.

I am so fond of T Kingfisher's writing that you should probably take my bias into consideration. Kingfisher could present me with a word salad and I'm sure I'd eat it up. I loved this, of course. I found the climax to be quite spooky in its imagery. I loved the characters. I loved the old quiet lodge near a tiny rural town setting. For such a short book, the start does feel a little slow before the supporting cast shows up.

i would almost give this a 3-3.5 for being underwhelmingly spooky compared to the first book, but i do just love t. kingfisher’s writing so it’s not like i didn’t enjoy myself.

pros: angus and miss potter are cute. easton continues to be a grounded protagonist that takes you with kan. the creepy imagery. when it finally showed up, did not disappoint.

cons: the monster reveal didn’t come until much later, and it concluded fairly quickly even for a novella. maybe i just wasn’t in the mood for a slow burn horror right this second, but i did have a good time
