Incredible storytelling, complicated but loveable characters. These trans stories, while fictionalized, feel important. The author surrounds the messy (read: human) relationships she writes about with grace.

So engaging and well-paced and fun while also being so caring and deeply sad in places. The voices of the characters are great, even more so in the audio version. And I just love what a little brat Abigail is.

really loved it. The characters were stressing me out bc some decisions were so obviously bad and they either kept making them or almost going through with them and only changing their mind in the last second. I think its also just bc these people were all in a small repressive town and they were so focused on these gender roles and the societal norms and trying to fit in so hard (cis women included) that they kind of ruined their own lives a little and caused quite a bit of collateral damage in the process 🥴 im honestly mostly looking at constance here bc girl why were you in that relationship so some of these characters made me want to shake them a little but its okay they figured it out in the end. Good for them 🙂↕️
And I just love books about community and finding out what you really want (and not just as a teenager). And i think that was the main message. Don’t hide yourself (especially not from yourself) and the power of being around people who understand and accept you.

I’m not sure what to rate this book yet. I will say I enjoyed it from the beginning. I found Abigail a bit difficult to like at times but I think that was the point. She is a teenager going through something that no one should have to deal with. Erica’s and Abigail’s friendship was sweet and I’m glad the potential inappropriate nature of it wasn’t a main focus for too long.
Edit: I decide to rate this 4.5 stars. I can’t explain why but thesecret trans storyline with Brooke just felt too…convenient? I definitely didn’t see it coming but it also just felt a bit odd to me.

This was heartwarming and also quite funny. Reminded me of Laurie Frankel and that's a good thing. It ran the risk of becoming sappy but didn't get there, fortunately. Lots of cringe-worthy moments but the author stuck the landing.
