Classic Hammett. Enjoyed every minute of it.

I liked this book--I really did. It has the usual snappy dialogue by Hammett. It also had a really high body count. In a lot of ways it reminded me of Kurosawa's Yojimbo combined with many of the conceits and highlights of noir and detective fiction. It was an enjoyable read, but and justly famous, but it was sometimes hard to sympathize.

enh. i don't think it is super enjoyable because of the oldy-fashionedy manner of speech - there are quite a few references that are completely obscure and make it hard to really get into it. i read a bunch of Hammetts when i was a kid, but missed this one, and frankly the whole time i was reading it i couldn't decide whether to keep reading. finished by inertia.

Red Harvest was required reading form my American Lit class. Since it was required reading it took me longer to read. It's takes me longer to read something if someone tells me I should read it. I did really enjoy this book even though it took me so long to read. It was nice taking my time to read it.

Started off brilliant, got messy for the last third. Still a wonderful noir story.
