The book was pretty slow, and at times it drug on and I found the politics boring. I admittedly had to skim some parts. However, the characters made the story worthwhile.
Graphic: War, Injury/Injury detail, and Violence

FINALLY finished. It took me so long because whenever I reached a racist or sexist point, I'd stop. I know that Tolkien is a product of his time etc. etc. but that doesn't mean I have to enjoy reading sexist or racist things. But, you know, he's the father of modern fantasy and everything. So I felt I really needed to read Lord of the Rings in order to have a true understanding of the genre. And it was fun! Just a little *ahem* sexist and racist.
