For: readers looking for a heartwarming book about inclusion.

Possible red flags: rain; feeling left out/sad/isolated.

I loved the pictures and message, but the text left much to be desired.

Sweet story and beautiful illustrations that capture the rainy, but comforting spirit of the book. Everyone is welcome, there is always room.

A simple story, beautifully told. I love how the only face that is shown in the illustrations until the last page is the ever-present, ever-growing, red umbrella. The bodies of the human characters are expressive and diverse in race and ability. When the humans are finally scene, diverse couples and family groups also appear. There is truly room for everyone under this umbrella and in our world.

This is the picture book selection for my library’s 2023 Community Read program. The art and colors are lovely. The story is simple and sweet. The umbrella always has room and makes room to shelter those in need. 💙

Another book to add to your “need to have for this day and age we live in shelf”. Great conversations will happen around this book.
