What a poignant novel that kept me totally engrossed in the story. The novel had many plot twists and a lot of highly developed characters. Some of the characters were so awful that I had a difficult time reading some parts of the book. With this being said, I highly recommend this book. It’s an older book, but I am so glad that I chose to read it.

I had a love/ hate relationship with this book. I hated to read it but when I was reading it I couldn’t put it down. I was just sickened by not just the cruelty between the races but the unspeakable cruelty by the mother to her children. What is sadder is that people back then thought they didn’t have a choice in how they were being treated. Very sad days in our nations history all around 😔
