The saddest, hardest book I've ever read. Tangy Mae's mother is probably the cruelest literary character I've ever come across.
My God Today!!!
Have some tissue and a few Tylenol. This was a very heavy story. I need a few days to process and restore. RIP Delores Phillips

This was a difficult story. The emotional tug of war the author created for me was exhausting. She made the mother of absolute zero redemption, yet her children remained thoughtlessly loyal to her despite her abuses. I had a hard time swallowing some of her mind manipulation, physical abuses, and ignoring her obvious mental illness. Reading this kept my defenses up and I had to step away from it until I just needed to get it over with. It's w solid book with great writing, I can't read it again. I felt like it didn't end well enough for me. I threw the book across the room when I finished. She needed to die.
I felt so many things listening to this book I can hardly put it into words. It was relatable, heart felt, heart wrenching just all around well told story.
I read this book for the second time for a book club. It turns out, that I did not remember, a lot of what I read the first time. I appreciated the storey very much, Even though Mama was the Mama from the very depths of Hell. The things that Mama made her family do, were disturbing, but made for an very interesting page-turner. I could not put the book down until I was done.
That was probably the hardest book I’ve ever read. Damn.
