I found the repetitive description of scents a bit annoying, and the use of brand names was kinda weird and took me out of the story but all in all a cool idea and an engaging read. The big sisters definitely read like what kids think cool adults are like (the fashion and the punk and the beauty etc etc) but it has to be forgiven since the book is itself aimed at teens.

It wasn’t quite what I thought it would be. Sure it had darkish elements, but it didn’t feel fully fleshed out… no pun intended there. I also kind of wish Grey had been the main character. I found her more interesting than our actual main character Iris. I found Vivi boring. And the idea that these three super close sisters were so completely different from each other just didn’t make sense to me. I did really like the mom though. I thought the book started out pretty strong, but as it went on I just started to get bored. Then, I didn’t really enjoy the end, as in the whole last part after they find Grey. There’s basically two mysteries and we only get an answer to one. I hated the love angle that was thrown in. One, it wasn’t believable.
Two, he was Iris’ sister Grey’s on again-off again boyfriend.
I had been so exited to read this, and I definitely thought it was going to be a 5 star.

I was ten years old the first time I realized I was strange.

Dark, dangerous things happened around the Hollow sisters.

“Lose your way to the Mad Max set, Furiosa?”
“Like you can talk, Hermione.”

The things I could make people do when they were high on me.

Both of my sisters were the great loves of my life. I couldn’t live without them. I didn’t want to.

What the hell was going on?

“Some people go missing because they want to; some go missing because they’re taken. And then there are the others— those who go missing because they fall through a gap somewhere and can’t claw their way back.”

“This seemed like such a good and noble idea ten minutes ago,” Tyler said. “I forgot that I’m not a good or noble person.”
I love Tyler 🤣

My sisters. My blood. My skin. What a gruesome bond we shared.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book! It would make such a great movie one day! It was eerie, dark, and a little disturbing at times lol but I could not put it down. I love the plot and the pacing. I love Iris, Vivi, and Tyler! The audiobook is really good too. I think I'll reread this someday!

I really liked this book overall. The story was super intense and engaging, and it sucked me in right away. The character relationships were really deep and interesting.
The only thing I didn’t like was that the gore was a bit too much for me, to the point where I felt nauseous during the last third of the book.
