This is very easy to read, but the story is so engaging. I couldn't put it down! This may be my favorite historical fiction series of all times. If you are a fan of vikings, or historical English warfare, or the TV show this is based off of, read this now! Long live Uhtred, Son of Uhtred!

Brilliant book, I loved the TV series and thought I'd give the first book a go, and now I want to get my hands on them all. I'd say it's better than the series, spending time with younger Uhtred in the beginning of the book was a delight, it fleshes out his character quite well. Excited to read more of the series.
