Meh. I don’t think I get where gornick is going with this one, too fragmented for my liking.
Alguien tiene que entenderlo, no es tan complicado; y al final del día, alguien lo hace.
I love the way this book is structured, the way it rolls on and on, slowly carving a space in your mind. I enjoyed the factual/historical anecdotes and things Gornick has learnt in her life. Her observations on social conventions and society at large were often relatable (sometimes grotesquely so) and sometimes a little disappointing. Anyway, I would recommend this book to anyone interested in learning about the perspective and lessons of the flaneur.

This would be a wonderful travel companion to New York. The vignettes of street interactions, her descriptions of the buildings, interspersed with sharp observations of both her surroundings and herself. As much a reflection on aloneness, and loneliness, as a study of what drives us to survive.
An absolutely gorgeously written memoir about the authors experiences and observations while living in New York City with many tangents about how she never really became anything as well as human connection.
Definitely one I’ll come back to since some parts just went way over my head !
